Roanoke NRHS Car – Powhatan Arrow #537

Norfolk and Western’s best known passenger train came about from the railroad’s belief that passengers would flock to the rails after World War II. It began in April 1946 with two all-coach trains running each way from Norfolk to Cincinnati. The train was totally re-equipped with all new equipment in December 1949. The train suffered from poor ridership and was discontinued in May 1969. It was donated to Roanoke Chapter NRHS and restored to operating condition. This model represents 58-seat coach No. 537 which was one of these cars.
